Folk Art Pt 2

I love roosterboy. I am a sucker for roosters. In the second image I put my favorite parts of two different paintings together. The flattened cow is beautiful and begs for more study. The last image has the folk art composition with that incorrigible perspective.
It says so much more in it's flaws than it could ever say if it were precise.

Folk Art Pt 1

Here are a couple of 'Inspirational' drawings done in 1854 by Hannah Colhoon, who was a Shaker. I have long been interested in
fruit-bearing(and otherwise) branches and vines in particular, and love the writing combined with the drawing. I have been painting and drawing and embroidering and sewing and writing, and would love to combine because it is pulling me in too many directions.

clothes-peg bag

This is my clothes-peg bag. I love wooden clothes-peg and this bag is where i store them. I think that i can make something like that, maybe bigger, for the beach or for shopping with fruits and vegetables sticked on.

Little Things

I have been working on an embroidered pillow case for Doug that says "When you walk it's a parade". Which is a Smog song that I have always loved for it's simplicity and lush unsentimental coup. Also one of my favorite Doug qualities, his way of imbuing much of what he touches with a kind of understated love that sings true.

Cookies from Home

What a great idea I thought. Get a bunch of kids together (who have lists to santa a mile long with great prospects of getting
some if not most of the reasonable items) and have them decorate sugar cookies to bring to the family shelters in town which will soon be full of kids who probably no longer have reason to believe in Santa.
Things that went through my mind...
Do I use organic ingredients or does it matter. What does it mean if I use organic for my daughter but not for these kids.
Should they be happy with what they get. Or not.
Do I put them on paper plates? The ones that have been sitting around in my out of reach cabinet for years?
If so will they know that the plates are old and not for Christmas? I guess they are used to second hand things.
But these should be different. They should be new and special. Not like all the coats with torn pockets and shoes with
frayed laces. Will they know the difference? Will they care?
Christmas cookies are something that I made with my family. It's one of those activites that homes are good for. Heightening the feelings of togetherness to people but also to the place. As always I have to ask myself who I am I doing this for me or them? What more can I do?

Andiamo

Marcella, I had this idea that we could set up this blog for us to support each other in this work of moving forward.
If you are interested, you can post pictures and comments just like me. We can send each other pictures of what inspires us, what we're thinking about or what we are having problems with. We can also add links to other work that we find interesting.
Let me know what you think. (Don't be turned off by the title, I hope that everything even the title can be a changing evolving thing. It was just something I came up with quickly)

getting started

Show me what you've been working on lately....
